Norm graduated with honors from Montana State University in 1972, with a BA in U.S. History. He received a Master of Divinity in 1980 from Luther/Northwestern Theological Seminary. Norm became a chaplain after completing six quarters of Clinical Pastoral education. He also completed the certificate program in Healthcare Ethics at the School of Medicine, University of Washington. Norm retired from the Army chaplaincy after 30 years service and also retired as a VA Hospital Chaplain.
